These photos represent a sampling of my 14-year old’s nature notebook drawings. She was four when she sketched the first drawing of a dragonfly. How fun it was to lay out all her notebooks and reminisce about each drawing – where we were, what she thought, etc. She is over the moon about meeting and learning from John Muir Laws this summer at the Charlotte Mason Institute Conference!
Admiration, Hope, and Love!

Love that you shared these! So often we only see the prettiest of journals and not the entire process. Reminds me of CM's quote "The first buttercup in a child's nature notebook is shockingly crude, the sort of thing to scandalise a teacher of brush-drawing, but by and by another buttercup will appear with the delicate poise, uplift and radiance of the growing flower." (Vol 6, p 217)

That quote fits perfectly! Thank you, Naomi.

Oh, how beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing!
I debated too long about the CMI conference, and now it's sold out. Ah, well. I will buy John Muir Laws' new book and hope they get the talks available to purchase at some point.

Is the Western conference a possibility, Beth? He will be there for a day, too!
Warmly,
Nancy

What beautiful nature drawings. Precious. I learned something here I hadn't known about Goldenrod – that it always points north. And what a good idea to put the temperature of the day of its sketching – 66 degrees.
Like the sparrow can "ease our load of earthly ills" when we pause to watch this humble bird flutter and forage, so does the turning of pages of a child's Nature Notebook of yesteryear.

I couldn't agree with you more, Karen. Thank you for your lovely comment.
Warmly,
Nancy
